EMBL Communications will be the data controller of personal data you provide to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (“EMBL”) in connection with the BIOcean5D website (Elementor and WordPress) and newsletter (Mailerlite). Your data will be processed for the purposes of website metrics via
Google Analytics
and circulating the project’s newsletter.
To this end, EMBL has employed an external service provider (individual consultant based in France) for maintaining and updating the relevant BIOcean5D website and for creating and distributing the project’s newsletter. Tools used for the website include
Elementor
for the hosting thereof and
WordPress
through Elementor for the design. Mailerlite [

] is used for the creation and distribution of the newsletter.
Website traffic data are collected by the Google Analytics system. The email addresses will be collected via a two-step authentication process in
Mailerlite
(newsletter system).
The source(s) of the data is our interaction with you through your visit to the website and the provision of your details for the newsletter.
We collect and process the following categories of your personal data:
For the website: Website traffic data (through Google Analytics system), Number of users, Session statistics, Approximate geolocation/country, Browser and device information, How the visitor learnt about/was referred to the website (e.g. organic search, social media, etc.)
For the newsletter: name, email address

2 years after project ends (2028) for the website data
Retention period Google Analytics: The maximum amount of time that Analytics will retain Google-signals data is 26 months, regardless of your settings. By default, Google signed-in data expires after 26 months. However, if the Analytics Data Retention setting is set to anything shorter than 26 months, the Google signed-in data will respect this shorter time frame.
Until the project’s end (2026) or until you unsubscribe for the newsletter
