The BIOcean5D policy strategy plan

New deliverable: our strategy to create and distribute three policy briefs that will result from BIOcean5D and other EU-funded research projects is out now
Credit: Kogia | Karim Iliya

Ocean life plays a major role in human survival, planetary health and society’s economy. Through BIOcean5D, we’re exploring how marine biodiversity, from microbes to mammals, changes across the 5 dimensions of 3-D space, time and human impact.

Our seventh work package aims to promote the uptake and use of our findings – ultimately to help inform future policies for the protection of marine life. This work is done in collaboration with the EU-funded project BlueRemediomics.

We’re pleased to share the first deliverable from this work package: our policy strategy plan.

In it, we describe our plans to support informed decision- and policy-making about ocean governance and conservation. We also describe our plans to enhance the public’s understanding of ocean and biodiversity conservation issues.

Swimming against the current: highlighting the value of plankton services for marine conservation

Recently published BIOcean5D research highlights the understudied value of plankton, their ecosystem services and disservices, and the importance of integrating this knowledge into marine policy.
