The BIOcean5D policy strategy plan

New deliverable: our strategy to create and distribute three policy briefs that will result from BIOcean5D and other EU-funded research projects is out now
Credit: Kogia | Karim Iliya

Ocean life plays a major role in human survival, planetary health and society’s economy. Through BIOcean5D, we’re exploring how marine biodiversity, from microbes to mammals, changes across the 5 dimensions of 3-D space, time and human impact.

Our seventh work package aims to promote the uptake and use of our findings – ultimately to help inform future policies for the protection of marine life. This work is done in collaboration with the EU-funded project BlueRemediomics.

We’re pleased to share the first deliverable from this work package: our policy strategy plan.

In it, we describe our plans to support informed decision- and policy-making about ocean governance and conservation. We also describe our plans to enhance the public’s understanding of ocean and biodiversity conservation issues.

BIOcean5D data hub: making a holistic vision of marine biodiversity possible

BIOcean5D is dedicated to the collaborative and multidisciplinary exploration of marine life, to advance understanding about how it changes with space, time and human impact. Achieving that objective requires the collection, integration and harmonisation of a vast amount of complex, heterogeneous and scattered information – made possible by the BIOcean5D data hub.

Lamprey + citizen power to reveal plankton diversity

The Lamprey and Curiosity microscope are two invaluable tools used by BIOcean5D to harness the immense potential of citizen science, improve ocean literacy, engage and empower the general public and increase awareness of the immense challenges facing our Ocean.
