CEPHALOPOD brings together observations that measure marine biodiversity in very different ways. Following on from our previous article, we dive into what has been revealed by bringing these different perspectives together – where they agree and where they tell complementary stories about ocean biodiversity.

We observe the ocean in many different ways. Turning these diverse observations into a coherent picture of marine biodiversity, however, remains a major challenge. CEPHALOPOD provides a pathway from fragmented observations to reliable knowledge, helping researchers, decision-makers and society to better understand, protect and manage our ocean for a sustainable blue future.

BIOcean5D data hub: making a holistic vision of marine biodiversity possible

BIOcean5D is dedicated to the collaborative and multidisciplinary exploration of marine life, to advance understanding about how it changes with space, time and human impact​. Achieving that objective requires the collection, integration and harmonisation of a vast amount of complex, heterogeneous and scattered information – made possible by the BIOcean5D data hub.

Unravelling biodiversity change with long-term time series

Our BIOcean5D workshop brought scientists together to share knowledge and collectively identify strategies and methodologies for comparing marine biodiversity data. The results of the work will contribute to a better understanding of biodiversity change.
