BIOcean5D targets marine biodiversity

EMBL Heidelberg hosted the inaugural meeting of BIOcean5D, bringing together partner organisations physically for the first time. Researchers were able to discuss their plans, agree on shared ways of working, and explain aspects of their work in more detail.

A recent publication by researchers from AZTI, CNRS, the Technical University of Denmark and Ikerbasque, co-funded by BIOcean5D, explores the paradox of why the oceans – despite covering 71% of Earth’s surface and having supported life for far longer than land – harbour fewer extant species than terrestrial environments.
